A bloody nose, also known as epistaxis, remains a common incidence that can happen to anyone at any age. It remains caused by the rupture of blood vessels in the Nose. Bloody noses can be mild or severe and can happen for various reasons.

Some of the most common causes of bloody noses include:

  • Certain medications

Medicinal conditions such as high Bloody Nose, blood clotting disorders, and liver disease

If you have a bloody nose, you should first sit down and lean forward slightly. This will help to keep the blood from flowing down your throat. You can also pinch the soft part of your Nose between your thumb and forefinger for 10-15 minutes. This will help to stop the bleeding.

If the bleeding does not stop after 15 minutes, or if it is severe, you should seek medical attention.

Tips For Preventing And Treating Bloody Noses:

  • Have your Nose moist by using a saline nasal spray or gel.
  • Avoid picking your Nose.
  • Blow your Nose gently.
  • If you live in a dry climate, use a humidifier.
  • Avoid strenuous activity that can raise your Bloody Nose.
  • Talk to your specialist about treatment choices if you have a bleeding disorder.

Most bloody noses will stop independently within a few minutes with proper care. However, if you have a frequent bloody nose or severe bleeding, you should see a doctor to rule out any underlying medical conditions.

Pinching puts pressure on the blood vessels and assists in stopping the blood flow. If the bleeding doesn’t stop, pinch the Nose again for up to 15 minutes. Don’t let go for at least five minutes, even to check if the bleeding consumes stopped. Seek emergency care if the bleeding doesn’t stop after the second try.
